About Cassie

Throughout her life, Cassie has set high goals. She has chosen career paths and hobbies that require hard work, responsibility, attention to detail and dedication. She brought these qualities to her clients through her profession as an independent, exclusive buyer’s broker.

Cassie moved to Southern Pines from Middleburg, Virginia, where she lived for most of her adult life. She had been coming to the Pinehurst - Southern Pines area for many years to visit her parents who retired here, and grew to know and love the area and the wonderful Carolina lifestyle.

Before finally retiring recently, she owned a total of seven small businesses... and enjoyed a number of career paths including college and medical school administration, followed by five years managing her U.S. Senator's office on Capitol Hill.

Upon moving to Middleburg, she sold fine period French and English antiques for many years before opening a new business, a high-end niche design business. Examples of her work can be seen in the most exclusive homes all over the east coast, the Caribbean and Europe, with jobs ranging from work in a simple log cabin to a 48,000 square villa in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia... She has experienced working with many of the country's most discerning homeowners, their tastes and their needs.

While in Virginia, Cassie opened her guesthouse, “Foxcub Cottage,” as a seasonal B&B. Foxcub, originally a blacksmith shop in the early part of the 20th century, was featured on the historic home tour. Cassie also headed up the historic preservation group in her town, which gathered information regarding its rich history and historic homes. Oral histories were gathered from older citizens, which now reside in the county historical society archives.

Once in Southern Pines, she personally designed and built her home. As she absorbed the hundreds of details involved in the home building process, she developed a large web of skills and local resources. This project, together with previous business experience and exposure to many styles and sizes of homes, evolved seamlessly into a new career finding wonderful homes for others here in the Sandhills. Her real estate clients have hired her as an interior decorator as well, and she has completely decorated client’s homes from furniture to kitchen utensils – a particular convenience for clients whose primary homes are elsewhere, and whose time here is limited.

Although Cassie grew up in a golfing family, she has spent 46 years riding, breeding, training and showing horses, and now enjoys riding for pleasure. Cassie and her horse going over a jump

Hiking in Scotland

She enjoys traveling, and especially enjoys annual trips to Scotland to hike the Northwest Highland mountains of her grandmother’s family.

Over the years she has brought many friends on these trips to what she thinks is the most beautiful place in the world.

She has climbed Ben Nevis and many other Scottish mountains, and has enjoyed birding and hiking in the remote Outer Hebrides, the Orkney Islands, and Shetland in the far North Sea. Recently, she has become involved in wildlife photography, with emphasis on birds.

Cassie is Co-Creator and Co-Designer of The Healing Garden on the Pinehurst hospital campus. It is designed to be a place of peace, hope and respite for people whose lives or lives of loved ones are in medical crisis, and, as well, for all people in the community who just seek a place of quiet and solitude to cope with the stresses of life that we all experience. The garden has been featured in PineStraw Magazine, and has received much attention. The garden consists of a dozen garden rooms - a secret garden, a children's garden, a kitchen garden, a wildlife garden, a rose garden, a cottage garden, and others… She has given many presentations and countless tours to community groups to raise funds and awareness for the project, so that the Healing Garden will continue to provide a green sanctuary for those who need to a bit of soul food.

Cassie has been very involved in community organizations in North and South Carolina, as she has had several properties in South Carolina as well. Cassie has served as Vice President of the Sandhills Natural History Society, and has led many birding field trips. In May of 2010, she led their first international field trip -- a natural history tour of the northwest highlands of Scotland… She has served as Vice President of the Board of the Sunrise Theater Preservation Group, and as Chairman of SunFlix, the film selection committee. She has been a member of Weymouth Center for the Arts and Humanities, and has volunteered as a Dirt Gardener in their lovely Weymouth Gardens. She is a member of the Carolina Bird Club, the Sandhills Area Land Trust, and volunteers for the Moore County Historical Society. In South Carolina, she has been very involved with the South Carolina Maritime Museum in Georgetown, and the Santa Elena History Museum in Beaufort.

In an effort to help preserve the area's character and charm, Cassie is a staunch supporter of controlled growth, land conservation, and historic preservation. As a licensed Broker/Owner in South Carolina as well, she divides her time between both states.
